I agree with Brian that migrating across platforms , rather than versions, is probably easier.

Why is 8.1.6 the choice for Oracle version - has it not been released yet for your platform or is this an internal organisational reason? The reason I ask is that images lend themselves to BLOB's which are available in 8.x. In other words Oracle8 sounds like it would do the job for you.
