I had the same problem and then I read (a little late, I'm afraid) a note
about this problem. cd to <oracle_install_dir)/install/linux and run the
runIns.sh instead of runInstaller. Worked for me everytime. I am using
Suse 6.4 and had to copy the entire CD to a dir (tmpora), apply the patch
and install from there. If you're still using the cd then go to
install/linux and
run runIns.sh.
