Thanks, that may explain why, after a reboot I didn't get any problems when I did a number of test Startup/shutdowns because I did them in sequence. I'll try out of sequence and see if I get any trouble.
BTW What was the book that you were refering to ? The Unix book and Oracle book I have don't mention Semaphores.
