When we converted from SC to NCA, we used Oracle's sizing data from their guides to determine the middle tier. The back-end was no problem (E10000). We picked Solaris Intel for the middle tier boxes (much cheaper than an E250!!). We run 3; 1 for metrics server and two for the actual user processes. The Oracle sizing data will help you estimate the amount of RAM and CPU your processes will require.
