Robert,

I don't expect to have much traffic at all - usage would be very light and infrequent: I just need a way to SECURELY replicate what's likely to be a small amount of data (1 - 2 MB?) via some (simple!) method that won't be affected by the underlying connectivity (leased / direct-dial-up / via internet) between base and the 10-odd outstations. So I can either assume that security is provided by the network (in which case I'll need a VPN when I use the internet) or by the application, which is where I think the *HTTPS* comes in.
