Newbie: How to create multiple instances on same server

All,



How do I create multiple instances (or is the correct term databases?) on
the same linux (intel) server?   Is the procedure the same for solaris 2.6
and NT 4?



I already have the default ORCL service running on each box.



Apparently, there is more to it than the create database command.  Any
advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated, as my oracle press dba
handbook is not very helpful.  Thanks in advance.
