CAn 7.3 clients accessing 8i database

If I have a database instance running on version 8i can I   still access it
from clients running 7.3 client on win95/nt 4.0 workstation or do the
clients have to be at  8i?


 The reason I ask is we run client software on each PC [small site 130
workstations] which would need to be updated overnight if we haaad do do it.
