Re: Hot backup - when to clear those archived logfiles?

that means there is no ends to keep on keeping all the archived redo logfiles? based on your input, I assume your point #3 is an online backup? 2 days is abit risky. But if I shut down my database and do a cold backup, do I still need all those archived logfiles?

I am supporting an intranet apps for asia pacific region and so sunday is a slow period for my web farms and database. Outage of 4 hours is tolerable. I was thinking of such, monday to friday, hot backup on all archived logfiles and export dumps.
on sunday, shut it down for cold backup. then the archived logfiles can be stored on tapes until required; i.e. I can offload the logfiles to storage tape.
