I want to install Oracle 8i on a Sun development box, and am a bit
confused after reading the Oracle install docs. There it states that
either Solaris 2.6 or 2.7 is a requirement, and that patch revision
#105181-06 is also needed. When I do a 'uname -a' on my Sun box, I
get 'SunOS 5.8 Generic ... ' in return. I am not familiar with the
intricacies of Sun OS nomenclature, so I need to know whether 5.8 is
sufficient or not. If it is, then what version of Solaris does it map
to? When I go to download that patch from Sun, I am only given Solaris
2.x options to select as the OS, no mention of SunOS anywhere ...

Thanks if anyone can help,

Steve
