Archiving Theory Question

Hi,
This is an embarrasing question for an Oracle DBA with 3 years of experience to ask, but here it goes:

When you enable archiving and are running in archivelog mode...what happens to the current redo log when the database shuts down?

For example, Lets say I'm currently on log sequence 111 on my online redo logs. Let's say that I then shutdown the database. Does my online redo log 111 get archived? Or does it only get archived during a log switch?

Excuse the ignorance and thanks for any answers. I personally don't think it gets archived, but I have to ask anyway.

Regards,
Satar
