Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> Total Newbie 8i PE Listener Question
I'm a project lead for a web site re-engineering project and I'm lucky enough that we'll be hiring a DBA to install Oracle in our production environment. In the meantime I'm trying to slap together a prototype sample to show stakeholders (the guys with the money) a simple app and I'd like to be able to work on some of it from home.
So here's my problem. I got Oracle 8i Personal Edition to install ok on my Win98 client. I can get SQL Plus to connect to the database, but I can't get outside services to connect. Basically, I seem to be having trouble setting up my Listener, as I get TNS protocol errors. I think I could resolve it if I just knew which protocol to use. I've focused on IPC, but honestly I can't say I know what I'm doing there. I'm not a DBA or even a networking pro.
Maybe Oracle 8i PE for Win98 does not support a Listener and Net Services, but it seems like it should looking through the docs.
Please forgive my naivity. Any ideas?
thanks
