How to keep two database in sync ?

I wan't to keep two databases in sync. One database is the production system, the other database is a backup system. Both are connected over a 2 MBit connection. Right now I'm considering 2 "solutions":

    1.) use replication
2.) use a standby server (the archived logs a transfered to the backup
system)

What is the best solution for this problem ? Are there other solutions ?

BTW: The application is an interned based e-commerce system with a lot of DML statements.

Regards
