Hi there,

I have some trouble installing Oracle 8i on our server. I installed the JRE 1.1.6 v5 in the correct directory (/usr/local/jre/). When I start /tmp/ora8i/runInstall I get the notice, that some process couldn't be started. So I changed into the directory /tmp/ora8i/install/linux and called runIns.sh from there.

Wow, a window appears. But that's all. I get a nice grey window with nothing inside. But when I try to close the window with the close icon in the upper right, I get a nice dialog window asking me, if I really want to exit the installer. The xterm window from where I started the installer reports nothing at all. No exception or something like that.

What am I doing wrong?

Maybe I should mention, that previously run an Oracle 8.0.5 very stable, but it has been replaced by a bigger server. Now I want to test Oracle 8i on this machine.

Thanks for any help
