You can achieve the same with

alter tablespace temp default storage ( pctincrease x);

where 'x' is what it already was. This should ease the nerves. But also remember that if the tablespace is set to TEMPORARY (as it should be) then it was often look "full" since Oracle leaves segments there for re-use by others.
