Can the 8.1 version of SQLPlus be used to administer 8.0.5 databases?

I am wanting to do everything from sqlplus and from my understanding
sqlplus 8.1 can do everything that server manager can do. Am I correct
with this statement and can I use 8.1 for 8.0.5 databases? I am using
the solaris command line version.
