review the net 8 admin guide chapters (8 - i think) for "connection manager"(in your installed online doc or on the install cd)

this product is included in the enterprise version and it allows you to talk "thru" oracle compatible firewalls and to the orcl 8 rdbms when its not located on the same server as your web server.

once setup, you'll need to modify your jdbc connect string ...

call oracle support and talk with the network team about connection manager.
