Jan -
The installation instructions are pretty explicit on how to do this and in fact it is recommended. Just make a new oracle home. The post installation steps create files to run to change the environment variables so you can easily pick/switch between versions.
Curiosity - why such an old version? Would it not be good to upgrade to Oracle8? Sure glad you are moving away from 7.3.2 as it is no longer supported.
