Not sure what hardware you should buy. But the performance issues can be
addressed in general. There are a variety of books and white papers that
give recommendations on disk configurations for example. While IBM is now
making 50 gig SCSI disk drives for around $800 that does not help increase
the number of I/O's per second. (User buys 1 50 gig drive for his database
because he has a 25 gig database instead of 10 5 gig drives stripped
together or separate out the redo etc. Performance problem waiting to
happen).
