You can (and should) put 8i under a different ORACLE_HOME directory from 8.0. As long as you don't plan on modifying the 8 tablespaces, you can safely keep both on your machine. You can create a separate account for running 8i, or just use the old Oracle account, changing ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID. Erik Diehn
