SRDF & Oracle 8i

We are looking into setting up mirror site for 24x7 high availability with fast failover with Oracle8i. I am going thru all the information from different vendors and Oracle. I come across few solutions and the most popular one seems to be SRDF in synchonous mode. I would like to hear from somebody who have implemented this successfully.

Also, anybody played with 8i's hot failover using preconnect, fast- start checkpointing and rollback, etc.?
