I tried to install Oracle 8i from CD, failed, and next boot my X-server failed.
Following was what I got:

redhat-cd> ./runInstaller
... executing jre, please wait.....

At this point, no disk activities, just wait for ever. I interrupted it, system
looks ok.
Next boot,  I got one daemon failed:

Couln't stat /var/lib/nfs/xtab              [failed]

boot continue, until starting the X:

_FontTransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno=111
failed to set default font path 'unix:-1'
Fatal server error: Couldn't open default font 'fixed'

My screen started flashing, probably for each attemp starting X, every 4 seconds.

My feeling is that those folks didn't test fully, before releasing their product.
Informix
is much better so far as linux is concerned.
