Hello oracle gurus,
My name is Nathan and I'm a developer of an "help desk" application called Remedy, which commonly has an Oracle database under it hood. After initial setup of Oracle I've never had to really interface with it. In the past-because of my inadequate database skills-- I have resorted to using a simple/crude method of installing oracle exclusively for Remedy's use. I am now working on developing a system for which it would be criminal to apply my crude methods. I am very confident that there are more efficient ways to install oracle for a Remedy system. Hopefully, this more efficient/effective method will be so simple that you database-centric gurus out there would not feel burdened to enlighten one seeking wisdom.

For those of you who have decided by now that you can't or won't consider my query there is no reason to read further.

For the rest of you I try to explain how I've been installing oracle...by the way THANX for you willingness to help.

I have the following platform:
--Sun Ultra Sparc 250 with as much hard drive as I'd like.
--Solaris 2.6
--Oracle 7.3.4 (must used this version)

--ARS 4.0.3 I would create one large partition for Oracle, let's say /usr/oraclewhere everything for oracle would go. During the installation a would chose the following options:

 Multi-Protocol Interchange
 Oracle Intelligent Agent 7.3.4.0.0
 Oracle Names 2.0.4.0.0
Oracle Server Manager (Motif) 2.3.4.0.0  Oracle Unix Installer 4.0.1.0.0
 Oracle7 Distributed Database Option 7.3.4.0.0 Oracle7 Parallel Query option 7.3.4.0.0 Oracle7 Server (RDBMS) 7.3.4.0.1
Oracle7 XA Library 7.3.4.0.0
 PL/SQL V2 2.3.4.0.0
 Pro*C 2.2.4.0.0
Spatial Data Option 7.3.4.0.0
SQL*Module for C 1.1.5.0.0
SQL*Net (V2) 2.3.4.0.0
 SQL*Plus 3.3.4.0.1
 TCP/IP Protocol Adapter (V2) 2.3.4.0.0

That is about the gist of my oracle setup. There after I install Remedy and let it create the "temporary tablespace" and "ARSystem tablespace". I usually do not have anything else to do with oracle after this.

Will greatly appreciate any feedback,
