One common problem is how efficiently does the application ask for data.
For example, I worked on a situation where the application was trying to
calculate average pays (highest consecutive 60 months out of last 120
months) and it would keep pulling the data over for each of the 120
comparisons (the whole result 120 times)! I am sure you are not doing that,
but that type of thing will slow down anything. Once we had it retrieve the
results once it made a great difference in performance.
