Oracle Host Variables in Pro*C

Can I use long long type variables as Host Variables in Pro*C?

example)
In DB total NUMBER(17)

In Pro*c(UNIX O/S, SUN workstation)

                long long my_total;

                select total into :my_total
                ...........;
