I completed DBA certification as a first step to breaking into the industry.
My lack of experience made it hard to find a job at first, but after about 3
months I found work on the strength of my OCP alone. My boss has since told me
that he felt someone who could complete the certification was smart enough to
handle the job even if he didn't have any working experience in the IT
industry. I'm not certain how much absolute value the exams have, but many
people are impressed by the credentials.
