Well, in short:
- read carefully Oracle Install guide
- download from blackbox Java-engine, install it
- start X-client (motif-compatible! e.g. Gnome failed), start
runInstall
- select product to install (Server), install without creating database
(crete only SQL-script)
- apply Oracle patch (8.1.5.1 or so)
- recompile Oracle binary file (you may need add path to Oracle-libs to
/etc/ls.so.conf, then execute ldconfig)
- create database using SQL-script
- do some additional tuning (auto-startup db, listener etc)
- take time to think "Is it woth?"
