Problem with prespawned servers and Visual Basic

We're having a problem with prespawned server processes and SQLNet connections from a Visual Basic 6 application. If I enable prespawned processes the VB application periodically gets TNS 12547 or 12203 errors ( specifically when doing a dataobject.refresh call ). It's not 100% repeatable, sometimes the call works, sometimes it fails. These errors occur after the call has returned the refreshed data. If I disable prespawned server processes the errors go away.

The Oracle server is running on VMS. The error has been seen on both Oracle 7.3.2.3.2 and 8.0.5.0.1

  Any hints?
