I just installed Oracle 8i on Solaris and could not connect from 8.0 clients (linux) or 7.3 clients (Solaris). See: <3800972C.2ED48BB6_at_richard-schneider.de>
The problem was a wrong listener.ora. Try to replace the hostname the
listener binds to or the instance name (case is significant!!!).
