  Hello,

  I have Oracle 8.0.5 on UnixWare 7.1.0 too.   Therefore I have one question not absolutely relating to your problem.

  Do you receive an error(warning) message: "open   of async device failed: Permission denied" when the user process   opens?

Example:

$sqlplus
SQL*Plus: Release 8.0.5.0.0 - Production .... ...
Enter user-name: scott

open of async device failed: Permission denied
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^  - this message

Enter password:

...
