the process can be as smooth as you can only dream of, or it can turn to a worst nightmare... It all depends on the nature of data in your database, server-side code, client side app. logic, db size, etc, etc... In one word, it all depends on plenty of parameters.

Oracle has for once done a (bit) better job in insuring that people get some decent information about the migration process + the tools supplied. If you have a small database, you can just as well give it a try-and-error approach and see how it goes... If this is not the case or you want to be more reasonable, depending on the time you can spend on it, you could start by doing one or more of the following :
