I'm assuming Unix, since you mention $ORACLE_HOME rather than %ORACLE_HOME%, but the arguments are much the same anyway.

Yes it's possible. I've found no benefit in having two users, provided you keep track on which one you're looking at. I would suggest different ORACLE_HOME's. I've not seen ORACLE_PRODUCT before, but if you mean $ORACLE_BASE (i.e. an OFA compliant install), it's not necessary to separate these unless you hit:

  1. Space problems
  2. I/O performance issues due to having two kernels on one disk.
