A couple of Oracle8/Digital UNIX Questions

I was asked the following questions recently and I couldn't answer them. Maybe someone here can.

1. Does Oracle open datafiles in O_SYNC mode? I think the answer is "yes" but I'm not sure. How would the setting of DISK_ASYNCH_IO affect whether the O_SYNC mode is used?
2. Can more than one Oracle thread write to the same datafile at *exactly* the same time?
