Running 8i on NT.  Do I have an obvious mistake ? I went verbatim
straight from the book:

SVRMGR> connect internal
SVRMGR> shutdown
SVRMGR> startup mount
SVRMGR> alter database archivelog
SVRMGR> alter database open

every thing responded properly until I ran the command "archive log list"
Do I need to bounce the database for the change to take effect ? No mention of that in manual.

SVRMGR> archivelog list;
Database log mode                                 Archive Mode
Automatic Archival                                 Disabled         /* This is the problem - should be Enabled */
Archive destination                                 D:\Oracle\Ora8i\RDBMS
Oldest online log sequence                      2
Next log sequence to archive                  5
Current log sequence                              5

TIA for any comments/suggestions ...
