Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> 8i/linux install problem
I have downloaded the entire 8i/linux distribution. I have RH 6.0
with the latest patches. I did everything the instructions said
to prepare for the installation. Here are the relevant env vars:
ORACLE_SID=VROBI
NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.US7ASCII
ORACLE_BASE=/home/oracle/u01/app/oracle
ORA_NLS33=/home/oracle/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/ocommon/nls/admin/data ORACLE_HOME=/home/oracle/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5 TNS_ADMIN=/home/oracle/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/network/admin
The database server installs fine, but as it invokes the DB Configuration
Assistant, it fails.
Then, I start up dbassist manually as the istructions state, I get the following error:
JNLS Exception:oracle.ntpg.jnls.JNLSException: Unable to find any national character sets. Please check your Oracle installation.
If I continue, I get to the screens where I can create a new DB or copy one. If I decide to copy one it fails, because it looks for an Oracle CD which I do not have. I cannot point it to the staging area on disk?????
After that the DB creation fails:
TNS could not resolve service name
Am I supposed to setup a tnsnames.ora *before* I create the DB?
Any help is appreciated.
