Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> Beginner's question concerning WebDB
Hello,
I would appreciate if anybody could give me a hint concerning the
following problem:
I am new to Oracle and have installed Oracle8i on an NT server. This
appears to have
been successful, and now I try to run WebDB against that database, in my
case by
specifying the URL
in my browser. However this keeps resulting in an error message telling
me that the
'TNS could not resolve service name', and suggests that I check the TNS
entry
under the DAD. The TNS listener is running.
Under Oracle8i, WebDB has to be installed under a diferent home than the
database.
I put it under C:\Oracle\Ora81r, whereas the database is under
C:\Oracle\Ora81
I understand that the tnsnames.ora file under the C:\Oracle\Ora81r\..
installation
has to be updated, and the therein specified TNS alias specified under
the DAD page
(by going to http://inetserver:80/admin_/gateway.htm, which works but
does not help).
I simply copied the tnsnames.ora file that already existed under the
database-home
to the correct place in the WebDB installation, and specified the TNS
entry that mentions my SID.
Could someone send me a copy of a tnsnames.ora file that works under the
WebDB installation?
Is there any way for me to se more exactly what is going wrong? I have
searched the web for
more hints, but have not been too successful; any suggestions of
webpages?
Also, could the error message have to do with the fact, that my server
is not yet
connected to the net? Has the DNS to be running? Should I specify
'127.0.0.1' instead of
the hostname 'inetserver' in the tnsnames entry for the time being, or
do I have to have an
external name-server connection?
Thanks for any suggestions,
