ORA-01012: not logged on

Hi,

I'm trying to install Oracle8i (8.1.5) Server on a SUN Sparc Solaris 7.

At first i created an user 'oracle' with the groups oinstall and dba. I set the environment variables
NLS_LANG=WE8DEC

ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
ORACLE_SID=testdb

ORA_NLS33=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/ocommon/nls/admin/data

for 'oracle' and started the OUI. The installation was successful except of the creation of the database 'testdb'. I get the error 'ORA-01012: not logged on' at initializing the database. The dbassist was started from the OUI at the end of the installation. I 'ignored' the error message and started the dbassist to delete 'testdb'. Same error.

If i try to connect to the database with svrmgrl or with sqlplus as SYS i get the error message 'ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress'.

I think I've missed something simple but I checked the Installation Guide twice and don't see any difference with my installation and the required steps described there?

Isn't the 'login'-requirement for the database the membership in group dba?

Any hints?
