Hail World Programmers.

I have a group of tables that I insert many records into. I also delete all records that are more than five minutes old. Currently, through PL/SQL before I do the inserts, I call a procedure that delete all aged records, if there have been many inerts, the deletes take a few seconds, which causes a delay in my web application.

Is there a way to speed this up, If I leave the records in the tables, and do a check every hour etc, will this be faster, should I investigate temp tables in 8i.
