Graeme

Having just completed Oracle & DBA course, I can only say this :

  1. The default for a block size in Oracle is 2K regardless of the OS block size.
  2. It was reccommended that 8K be used as the block size for most Oracle 7 OLTP databases.
  3. The Oracle block size must be a multiple of the OS block size.
  4. DB_BLOCK_SIZE is probably the most important parameter when tuning databases, set too small - it runs like a dog !

We use 8K on an HP server for Oracle 7 and Oracle 8.
