Hi
There are many DBA and Oracle books:
One of the better one is
Oracle(8) DBA Handbook by Kevin Loney.
I would invest about $40.00 bought via Amazon.com on this book and see for
yourself what is involved.
You can also browse these over coffee at Barnes and Noble etc. before
buying.
I have a set with other titles, but unless I have need for it I do not use them.
Advanced Oracle Tuning and Administration by Kevin Loney et al.
Oracle the Complete Reference by George Koch and Kevin Loney.
Oracle Backup and Recovery Handbook 7.3 edition by Rama Velpuri.
As far as the certification is concerned, I have never bothered because I feel that at least in Oracle world you can tell during the job interview a candidate's knowledge of Oracle and what he/she is capable of doing either as DBA or Developer.
Later !!!
