Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> Re: Rename field name in a table
This question must have been answered numerous times.
Once, a long time ago (I'm not telling fairy tales and I'm not trying to
make fun of you, I'm trying to make fun of Oracle), there was an upgrade
from Oracle 6 to Oracle 7. In the upgrade course given by Oracle Netherlands
we were discussing the cost-based optimizer and all the students immediately
started to complain about the cost-based optimizer.
Then the instructor answered:
"What do you want? There are 10 years of development in the rule based
optimizer and only 1 in the cost based optimizer!.
Remember, it's always in the next version!"
Back to serious mode: this proverb applies to your question too. It's in
Oracle 8i.
In older version you need to build a view, or do it the hard way.
Sorry,
Sybrand Bakker, Oracle DBA (established 1989, when there was still Oracle 5.1.17 and .22, and boy those initial Oracle 6 releases were buggy!)
