HI

we are in the process of moving from a classic single server configuration to a parallel server configuration and I was wondering if any body could offer some help or advice from a DBA's perspective.

The hardware to be used is

2 x Sun Servers running Oracle Parallel Server 8.0.5 2 x Sun Servers running Oracle Application Server 4.x 2 x Sun Servers running Firewall software Web Based application running on the OAS 4.x Internet based P.C. clients

Upgrade and Sorce Control

Does anybody on the list have a similar configuration and if so what types of software release procedures do you use to minimise system down time. Is it possible to upgrade Oracle/Solaris/Applicaions without an interruption in service.

Capacity Testing

We are looking to perform some realistic capacity testing of the system. Has anybody had to do this before and if so would you have any advice. Especially in terms of tools and methods to use. As this is aimed at an Internet Customer base we would like to be able to simulate the load of 100's of internet clients submitting transactions and also if possible use the same tool to prime the database with a large volume of 'realistic' data.

Any help, advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

regards

Michael Walsh
