If one uses raw devices for Oracle datafiles, at least for Oracle 7.3.x there is, I think, an Oracle internal limit for the Oracle datafile size.
We found out, that Oracle 7.3.x on Solaris 2.5.1 can manage only 4.194.304 Oracle blocks. This means, the max. size of one Oracle datafile, using raw devices, depends on the Oracle block datablock size.
For example, if Oracle datablock size is 2K, one will get a max. Oracle datafile size of 8GB, if Oracle datablock size is 4K, one will get a max. Oracle datafile size of 16GB and so on.
To be honest, at the moment I'm not sure if this is an Oracle-for Solaris-specific limit.
