Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> Error 1578
Hi all
This specific error does not occur so often. But when it occurs there is
only
way out which is drop the particular segment and recreate the segment.
I am trying to resolve one problem why it happens?
So far, to my understanding it happens only when oracle trying to read a
block of data and it find the discrepancies in its block header and footer.
Also oracle certainly did not write to the memory or disk it just calls the
write() call to the OS. Now my question is, is oracle instruct the os to
write the corrupted data? Asking to my self the same question, and
conclusion is just not possible or highly unlikely, because I don't know
in minute detail also.
According to oracle 1578 may occurs for following causes:
- disk media failure
Operating system does not report any error due to the controller or disk
media failure. Now oracle points to the OS that OS wrote some bad
or corrupted data into the block. But according to OS people (IBM)
they want to know what oracle trying to write at the moment into the block
and
what it get while it trying to read. Which I think is virtually impossible.
Talking
to oracle customer support, the trace files generated will not be any
help to proceed on resolving or debugging and says bluntly that it just
happens
and just a matter of time when it happens. Does that means that we have
to live with this error for good period of time till there is version of
oracle may be
oracle 10 which oracle claims that the version id 1578 proof. Oracle
customer
support also notioned that this particular error 1578 is uniform throughout
the
platform and throughout the versions of oracle. It just a matter of time
when
it occurs. Oracle also mentioned a real life example like we found a wrecked
car on the highway and there is no reason why it happened when it happend
and trying to correlate the same example with the 1578 error. Also to my
experience, this error occurs in slightly old database not on new databases.
Both IBM and Oracle suggest to upgrade the versions of oracle where
both vendors trying to say is to implicitly create a fresh database. If I do
so, I know (to my little experience) that the error will not occur for
atleast 9 months
to one year or may not occur for more. And oracle claims that may occurs.
I you have any documentation or site location to go into it in little deep
please
let me know..
Thank you in advance...
