RAID 0 or manual striping - which is better?

Hi everyone.

I'm purchasing an NT box for Oracle 8.1.5. I have the option for RAID 0 or no RAID at all. Availability is not an issue, so we are not considering mirroring.

So, in general, for an Oracle application, does RAID0 achieve good performance with its striping, or is manually placing the various database files on the appropriate disks better?

I know this is a bit of a "How long is a piece of string", but I need ideas and guidelines.

Much appreciated - Thanks Coakleyj
