we encountered the same problem with MS-SQL6.5/7 it seems to be a
problem with odbc.

When opening and closing many odbc connections the odbc quit working
after a while.

We have solved this by implementing an own Database Interface called
WDBI.

The only problem you might have with wdbi is that it is complete in
german. We are working on the english version but it is not available
yet.
