I guess that you haven't the right library's as RH 5.1 is a somewhat older distribution. I managed to install Oracle 8 on Suse 5.3 and Suse 6.1 and a co-worker installed Oracle on his RH 5.2 installation. So far as I know a few month's ago a new set of libraries where introduced, but I'am myself relative new so i can't give you any info on that :-(.
I would suggest: upgrade your linux to a recent distribution and try again.
