Ah.. I see this old debate has cropped up again. NT vs. UNIX. This is bunch of smelly BS IMHO. How can you for example compare Oracle/NT on a 4 PIII processor Compaq with Oracle/Solaris on a 4 RISC processor Sun box?

To do a real comparison with all things equal, you need to evaluate Oracle using NT and UNIX on the -exact- same piece of hardware with both operating systems being configured the same as far as possible, e.g. same amount of swap space on the same physical drives, etc. etc. But then what on earth is the results good for!?

I hate to break it to these "my UNIX dick is bigger than your NT dick" guys, but in the real world this argument is totally meaningless. Business decisions are made with regards to business issues first. Then you evaluate the technology and try to find the best "technology fit" for the business requirements - within the business and technological limitations and restrictions that exist. Some of the time the o/s of choice will be UNIX. Other times it will be NT.

Flame away... :-)
