To answer your questions:

Oraxcel can run queries and can insert new data (bulk load or row by row) and update data (update the fetched data and synchronise or on a row by row basis).

Oraxcel works with OO4O. It's free and can be downloaded from Oracle's ftp site. A hyperlink can be found somewhere on my Oraxcel pages.

Oraxcel uses OO4O which is written by Oracle. I am not aware of any data corruption problems whatsoever.

Oraxcel uses the Oracle data type to marry the cell formatting up with it. This assures the most correct display of the data. Please note that although Excel formats the data (especially dates) the raw data is not changed. Please have a go with Oraxcel and you find out what I mean.
