I find one of Oracle software's biggest failings is the poor error messages from their GUI products. If they need 256 colors, why don't they check for that and return a useful error message, rather than just refusing to start with no feedback at all.

The Motif-based ones are even worse ... about the best you'll get is an "unknown Toolkit II error..." or some such.
