Yes. If you are going to administer a database remotely, you need to have a way to grant DBA privileges for startup and shutdown without having the database running. This is accomplished through the use of a password file which allows DBA (OSDBA to be exact) authentication outside of the database. Received on Sat Mar 13 1999 - 13:13:04 CST
